    Should I go for i5 + gtx765m or i7 + gtx765m?

I am going to buy a custom gaming laptop from Danish company mm-vision. The first option is obviously cheaper, less power hungry and therefore will give me longer battery life and less noise. What I'd like to know is whether gtx765m ever needs a core i7 4700mq in games or i5-4200m is enough?

Quad Core is starting to become a necessary staple in games. For me SC2 / Skyrim / Crysis / Tomb Raider / Sleeping Dogs / Metro etc. are all games that would never perform properly on a dual-core. Keep that in mind.

If you'll be replacing this gaming machine in 12 months or less; go for the i5 (but you'll suffer 'now' in the more demanding games as noted above).

If you're able to fit (at purchase time) 16GB RAM or more, this too will help. Especially with Windows 8.1 x64 Pro.

When you consider that almost all mobile systems offer less than 70% (and most less than 200%) of the power of a desktop, and... even desktop gaming platforms can be cpu limited (depending on the game)... the wisest choice going forward is to get the most cpu, max out the RAM and plan on replacing your mobile gaming platform at least every two years.

    Hope this helps.

    Good luck.

Thanks guys. I don't plan to play games often, but still I'd like to have a decent performance when I decide to play something. Actually I haven't even decided yet if I should buy a thickish gaming laptop or get a thinner one without dedicated graphics card, an ultrabook or something. But if I decide to buy a gaming one after all, I will make a choice in favor of i7.
