I have a dell XPS 17 here that I have been using for a while and yesterday I had a big problem with a massive virus I guess. So I upgraded my old HDD with a SSD. I flashed the BIOS so now I have a modded BIOS with many more options.

I ordered a sager NP9390 the other day so I will have that within a few weeks. But until then I was wondering if it would be worth it to upgrade my GTX 550m and possibly my CPU and RAM. When I was in the BIOS yesterday I saw the option to change my RAM speed to 1600MHz instead of 1333MHz but I decided to keep it as 1333MHz because I didnt want to screw anything up. My CPU is i7 2630QM (2.0 GHz) which I might also consider overclocking.

Im looking for peoples opinions on this.

    thanks

Getting rid of a virus shouldn't involve any hardware changes (though HDD -> SSD is always a good upgrade to do). At worse, a reinstall of Windows would have been good enough.

Off the top of my head, I don't think you could meaningfully overclock the CPU, but you could try the GPU if you like. Start with small increases in the memory speed and clock (maybe 50 to 100 MHz at a time), test and see if it's stable, and go from there. Whenever the system gets too hot and/or fails stability testing, go back to the highest stable/cool setting.

I have never had a virus like this before. When I scanned my computer for rootkits it was saying that a bunch of files from WoW where rootkits so I figured the best thing to do is just stop using it all in general. I dont really care, I just care about some of the data I lost. I dont want to connect it to any computer for fear of it spreading.

Is there a tutorial on here for overclocking?
