Hi, I have a Gateway MX3558 with a pentium-M 1.7 ghz processor. I gave it to my sister a while ago and then she dropped it. The LCD screen is cracked but the rest is fine. I tested it with an external monitor. If I am going to replace the LCD screen, how much would that roughly cost? Do you guys think it is worth it? Also, if I am not going to relace the LCD screen, should I just trash the laptop?

It'll cost a few hundred dollars for the screen itself, not including installation. I say it's not worth it, perhaps make it into a mobile PC on a cart dolley, or sell it off for parts.

I would say it's not worth it.

What you can do is take the screen and bezel off and just keep the base. Then hook it up to an external monitor and you will have the smallest and thinnest desktop ever.

Hunt around for the screen on ebay to see just how cheaply you can get it. But factor in that you can get a functional new laptop for about $500 so if it cost more than that its not worth it really. Also i do like the idea of just turning it into a static 'desktop' by just plugging it into a regular monitor.
