Am I supposed to be "undocking" the external drive before Windows shutdown, because I've been simply shutting down with it still connected. I just want to be sure that this is not damaging to the drive.......![]()

I think windows goes through the shutdown protocols where it turns everything off so no it wont damage the drive. I mean imagine if you were running the OS from that external drive, how could you shut down if you remove the drive before

Thanks. I assume it is the same for Firewire & eSATA? These are just data drives, no os files.................

yup i think especially esata which is connected to the sata chip. all of them are just going to be similar to the shutdown of a normal drive connected internally as all services are shutdown by windows before it actually shuts down
