Yes, Arrandale will have i7s that are dual cores. In fact most of them will be branded i7. Google Arrandale and check out the models. I believe a few are: i7 620M, 620LM, 620UM.

LOL i would wait another 5-10 years at least before you get a 6 core mobile processor... they took ages to go from single core two dual core... most probaby we'll get a 6 core mobile processor when there are 8 or 12 core desktop processors...

Gulftown should be out by the end of next year, and that will easily drop into the X58 equipped Clevo D900F. 6 cores is completely unecessary for 99.9% of PC users, unfortunately.

But wouldnt it be fun to have 6 cores and 12 threads?!?!?!?! LOL
A complete overkill-waste if you ask me.

    Why only 6? There is the 8 core/16 thread Beckton - though it's 45nm.

    Is it octa-core native?
Like AMD's Istanbul native hexa-core? Or is it like Intel's first quad (double dual and large cache joining them), a double quad joined by cache?

?? I don't get your point. Istanbul is no way related to laptops.

And yes, 8 core Beckton is native 8 core. The high-end MP segment has always used "native" multi cores since otherwise it wouldn't scale well. Beckton is much more than just 2 Nehalems that includes 24MB L3 and 4 channel memory controller.

I read about someone mentioning about six cores not existing.
The Istanbul does exist. But of course, no mobile.

If we are talking mobile only, then no, not yet a native hexa-core.

um....what do you want to know about them?

xeons are just the consumer CPUs rebadged as server chips(although they are modified to work in multi-chip boards). they're generally lower-clocked and run cooler.

What do you want to know about them? Check up Wikipedia or Intel ARK for detailed specs and info.

The Xeon are up to hexa-cores AFAIK.
Some Macs might incorporate them later this year...followed by the rest.

Yep - the Dunnington Hexacore has been out for about a year, based on the Core architecture. AMD also has a number of competing hexacore Opterons. Eventually hexacore Nehalems will come out, with current speculation placing them in Q1 2010. Dodecacore (12-core) AMD Opterons are also due to come out sometime around Q1 2010.

SO are you guys saying that having a i7 820 QM with 7200 SATA hard drive is a complete waste of money, and should rather stick to i7 720 QM?

Uhm, what 'guys' are you referring to? As usual, the answer to your question depends on your needed use, the software you'll be running and the price difference between the two.

    Cheers!

Depends on your uses. I've created a comparison thread with benchmarks here for this very question.

My processor was selected with the help of this thread. My MSI GT640 now has an 820QM which screams.

On a simple memory benchmark on everest my 820QM surpasses the i7 extreme 965 haha Seen Here Keep in mind this is a 15.4 inch laptop.

how is your GT640 real life noise level? from http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-MSI-GT640-Gaming-Notebook.23063.0.html "The notebook already audibly attracts attention in idle mode with 35.1 up to 38.5 dB(A). The fan even turns up to a very audible 43.2 dB(A) up to a disturbing 49.1 dB(A) under load. Noise sensitive users should, therefore, keep away from the GT640."
