I find it hard to block annoying sounds, that's why I need a silent notebook.

My t400 is dead silent and my vostro 1700 is pretty close to that.
-
In my experience Thinkpads have been the more quiet laptops I've ever used.
Even under load.
I've yet not used a laptop with a 'P' series processor though. -
i think how silent a notebook is largely depends on background noise, when im in school in a silent but air conditioned room my notebook seems silent whereas at home my HDD seems reallyloud and anoying becasuse my room is much quieter.

Well, I just got got a new Sony VAIO S, when the fan is off (when surfing and using office) it's dead silent, so I'm happy, but please do keep posting.

Well...as long as you keep out of the throttle,my Asus G50Vt gaming laptop is dead silent...Not kidding!
-
Keep posting, there must be more silent notebooks out there !!!

My HP DM3t is totally silent. Especially after the BIOS updates and putting an SSD in.
-
Is that the new DM3 with coolsense technology ?

Exactly, I saw some documentation on the this new feature from HP, and it could be the solution for us that require silent notebooks, at least just silent in idle or light office work, then I'm satisfied.

Ugh. All you people with silent laptops. My G73 sounds like a jet engine, even at idle. Weird, considering it's quite contrary to what other people say about it.
Don't even get me started on my Toshiba. It's a great notebook, and it runs quite cool, but damn...like I said, don't even get me started, lol. -
If the laptop has an Intel graphics chip and no dedicated video it's probably going to show up on your list.
I had a Sony VGN-NR310E/S with a T7500 and a Scorpio Blue in it and undervolted and it was the ultimate quiet laptop. When CPU goes in IDA mode you'll hear the fan, no matter the laptop. The laptop was so quiet I quietly donated the laptop to a neighbour and his kids... because his kids were too loud to care how quiet the laptop was. -

only Silent one I can think of at the moment is my CF-30 with an SSD ... no fans and no moving parts. and heavy enough to hide any chip or power regulator sounds
-
I think the Tosh would give the Dv5t a run for it's money...it is quiet at idle, but when I'm playing a game or doing something intensive, it is LOUD. -
Here's a completely silent notebook. It's called the PnP.
-
hmmm... not sure about that I can hear a pen when you are writing on paper...
