Embedded World 2015: Skylake-DT Industrial Motherboard Spotted -- AnandTech

Now before I get shot for posting something non-laptop related, let me point out that this particular motherboard uses SO-DIMM modules, the kind of ram used in laptops. So there's the laptop connection. :p

    No but more seriously:

Unless Intel magically made Skylake much more efficient, mobile CPUs being capped at 45W seems to indicate that Xtreme edition chips will no longer be offered. :(

    Thanks for sharing the link.

So it looks like Skylake mobile will still be using DDR3L and not DDR4, huh - I imagine the latter is either unnecessary, cost prohibitive or both.

Nah, this is just the first Skylake board and needs readily available RAM.

    This I would skip.

Indeed.. I think this confirms it that I will wait for a Clevo laptop with Desktop Skylake processor... And DDR4 RAM :D

    Great find n=1 :)
I can tell you why 57W and Intel Extreme CPUs are missing. Here is instructions to OEMs regarding Broadwell mobile CPUs. Take a look at page 6 and you understand why. Skylake will undoubtly be no different

    Hint: Three letters...

I find it strange that mass production won`t start until Q1 2016 though. Its already been said that Skylake desktop CPUs will come out in August this year. They need new chipset right?

Yup, from Broadwell on, it will be pure soldered CPUs. Meaning all notebooks, except the P77ZM and P57ZM series from Clevo that use desktop CPUs, will use BGA.

I wonder if the multipliers are locked on the upcoming chips. If they are, gaming notebooks lose a big piece of its identity :/

Honestly, even a BGA Extreme CPU would be better than nothing at this point. But yeah it's clear what Intel's priorities are when it comes to the mobile segment.
