I have a GWA-4080N from an Acer TravelMate that I don't use anymore. I am considering using the drive in combination with an enclosure for use with my Aspire 1810T.

    I found some enclosures:
    1) EXTERNAL CD DVD DRIVE CASE ROM SLIM ENCLOSURE USB 2.0 on eBay.ca (item 250666398267 end time 17-Jul-10 06:00:49 EDT)
    2) USB External Laptop Slim CD-RW DVD Burner Enclosure on eBay.ca (item 350345523916 end time 23-Jul-10 11:28:15 EDT)

Installing the drive should be fairly straightforward right? Just like a hard drive and enclosure?

Do I have to worry about the drive not fitting or the faceplate on the drive not fitting in the enclosure?

You shouldn't, though the one I tried from ebay was a pain and i had to install the slimdrive a certain way (not all the way in, but close) for it to work properly.

ok I bought an enclosure, but I am having issues burning DVD's using Imgburn. I can burn a DVD but it always fails during verification.

I have tried 2 discs, one RW and another W. Philips and TDK. I really hope it is not the enclosure itself because I seriously cannot find these enclosures anywhere except on eBay, and they all look generic low-quality.

Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this problem?

Just my 2 trillion hyperinflated Zimbabwe dollars here.

Try writing at lower speed and see if that works. It could be your DVD writer and not the enclosure. Just a thought...If you already have a DVD cleaner, might wanna pop it in there to clean some dust. Just in case.

I tried to write at a lower speed than 4x, still has the problem
I tried at 1x and it fails during the burn.

The drive works on the original Acer Travelmate.
