I would like to replace the DVD+/-RW on my Dell E1405 laptop with a slot-load drive. It seems there are three on the market right now, with not much review info:

    1. Pioneer DVR-K06
    2. Panasonic UJ-85J
    3. Liteon SLW-831S

Just wondering if anyone out there has used any of these and can comment on the performance and reliability of the drive as well as whether it's excessively noisy. Thanks.

Remove the panasonic from yout list...it's matshita crap.
Both the pioneer & the liteon are fine DVD burners. I would go for the liteon =)

For the love of god, never, ever, ever think about buying Panasonic ODs on your own free will!!

P.S. Check out CD Freaks. If you ask around there about the other two, you'll get a better response.

Ditto to the Panasonic/Matsushita comments - don't buy one unless you want to be deafened whenever you use it.
