HEY! About to purchase an Aviator CX7 Duo from Hypersonic. Saw it has the new Duo processor....i had this problem earlier in regards to processor future. Will the merom fit in this slot if i wish to upgrade? This is all i need to know....processing future...otherwise, its the perfect computer for me...and if there are other clevo models of this laptop...let me know if they are cheaper

Yes, it will be pin compatible with existing Core Duo socket. The current chipsets(945) should also be compatible. At most the laptop manufacturer will have to update the BIOS to support Merom.

    nope. only 32bit

    core duo = dual core + 32bit
    Merom (Core 2 duo) = dual core + 64bit

you should double check with hypersonic to make sure that this is not a preorder. b/c this clevo model doesn't seem to be completely available in the states.

as for your merom question, we know that it will fit and that you will get a performance boost. however, i don't know if there will be 64-bit capability without a bios update.

Provided your notebook manufacturer releases a BIOS update that supports/recognizes Merom (as miner stated earlier). I'm willing to bet that most will not because they are, after all, in the business of selling notebooks and they would certainly rather have you buy a new one as opposed to upgrading it yourself. So I wouldn't count your chickens just yet.....

Hard to guess, but they should be out by then especially since Sager has been late to the Core Duo party.

Will they ship by the 25th?? Maybe maybe not.
