My sister needs a new computer and I want a new laptop. So I figured if I give her my laptop and buy myself a new laptop everything should be fine. My question is I build this laptop out of scrapes and I want to know if there's a really big difference between the old and new here's the specs.

I build it from the ground up so I know her inside and out..... My big concern is the integrated Graphic Card. I do some light video editing on my laptop and heavier editing on my desktop. I tried playing some fps games but that failed I can't even run a video benchmark on it without it failing.

I don't know what your primary usage is, but you may be a little disappointed in the small things when going from a business class notebook to a regular one.

Often business class notebooks will have a little better build quality, dual navigation (trackpad + trackpoint/dot), and a docking port.

dont forgot about the HP 3 year warranty. i have had many HP elitebooks over the past few years, so has my old company. the built quality vs a consumer grade laptop is way different. so is the level of tech support and warranty support.

The reason why I bought a elitebook barebone was because it looked cool it was the my first laptop that was really good. Within 5 years I came from a compaq Armada 1700 (slow) to a compaq armanda 110 (not bad still slow) to a hp tx1320us (really good but bad motherboard Burned out) to my 6930p all these laptops I build from barebones. Now I'm going back to what I really want. something fast powerful looks sweet Plays main stream games without a glitch and in 3 or 4 years it will still be a power house. So does anybody know the differance between the lenovo Y560 and Y560d. Is Tridef 3D even worth it...

IMO , no.. for 3D u need glases now.. later on in a few years when u don't , it would be excellent to buy.. also usually 3D screens have lower resolution and quality so its better to not get the 3D version.

but what specs is it? i usually don't recommend lenovo :D ... but i'll suggest something else too.. Acer timeline X 4820 with core i5+ ATI 5650 is excellent.. Battery life is like 6hrs+ in normal work and 2-3hrs under load.. quality of build etc is also great!

I have a question Do you think it's best to add 8gb and a HDD 500gb 7200rpm or just leave it at 4gb and HDD 500gb 5400rpm. I will be doing some gaming NOTHING CRAZY LIKE CRYSIS!! That's only on my desktop  . I also do some video editing and encoding.

I notice that the Lenovo i5 IdeaPad Y560 06462Q comes with both a 32gb SSD and a 500gb HDD for rapid drive and also a optical drive.

My question is Can't I add a ssd in the setup i'm getting? And if so where would you put it without losing the optical drive?????

it shouldn't.. ask on the lenovo forum but 80C should be max temp reached.. even my T9400 does so but that's due to faulty cooling.. actuallly it used to reach 100C but i undervolted etc... blatantly hps fault.. as for which config, i'd get the one with 5400rpm drive and upgrade easily urself to seagate momentus XT.. won't need an SSD.. and no u can't add it without loosing ODD which isn't worth it.. momentus has close to SSD performance.

i'd look on amazon for a discount.. try tigerdirect too... but as for RAM , 189 is bloody cheap for 8GB... but is this upgrade part of the laptop or something ur doing urself? If ur doing it urself , it will be even more cheaper.

Well at fry.com I found a y560 for 849.99+2 day shipping $19.00. That and the ncq hdd $129.99 is what I'm going to do for now because I want that Booq Boa squeeze backpack for 92.00. It perfect then later on down the line I'll get the 8gb gskill. That's a good deal right

I have a question What do you think about the Asus G51JX-X2. I was comparing both of them and the only differance I notice was the video card.

    Y560 Ati 5730 1gb
    Asus nvidia GTS 360m 1gb

Both are the same price and Specs. The asus comes with a 320gb hdd and I was gonna change that to a Seagate Momentus XT solid state hybrid drive regardless of which one I get. lol

    Which one would you get

Thats a tough choice, the Lenovo, it gets better battery life. But the Asus's 360m is better for gaming.

I quoted this post in order to highlight the fact that specs and price are not everything in a laptop. Durability, quality, and reliability are just as, if not more, important than delivering high performance.

A high-performance computer is useless if it constantly overheats or requires repairs, and unfortunately the majority of laptop computers these days are poorly designed, cheaply constructed, or inadequately cooled. You can give personal anecdotes to the contrary, but the statistics and facts speak for themselves. Even though I'm happy to use my new MacBook Pro these days, I would gladly refund it and have my old IBM T42 back in my hands, if it were only possible.

The GTS360M is way better than 5730.. it has 5500 in 3D Mark Vantage compared to 3500 for 5730... I'd get the Asus.. it should run cooler than the lenovo and look way better..
