So, are vendors going to drop CPU upgrade prices with the new Intel price cut?

That pushed down the price of the T7700 and the T7500 from $530 and $316 to $316 and $241, respectively - cuts of 40 per cent and 20 per cent.

That's a pretty good price-cut on T7700, making it actually a somewhat reasonably priced upgrade. However, I wonder how quick if at all, would HP, Dell, or Lenovo lower their upgrade prices?

Could be upto a month before we see the lower prices in effect. The bigger OEMs would need to deplete their stockpiles before ordering the newer chips at the lower cost.

Or they may just offer newer models with the slightly higher chip speeds at the same price points.

This is great news! :) I think I will hold off on a notebook purchase until the price cut reaches HP, albeit in a diluted form.

HP already changed the processor options in their Pavilion line a week or so ago. They switched from offering the T7300 to the T7500 and T7700. Dell also had some confusing prices, such as the T7700 costing less than the T7500.

I'm planning to buy a new Core 2 Duo notebook soon and I am going to see if I can take advantage of the T7700 price cut. I was going to get a T7500 but now that the T7700 has fallen into its price bracket . . . I'll have to see. Going by that logic the T7700 models should now cost the same as the T7500 models but that will probably not happen. Either way I am not that concerned because an additional 200MHz on top of 2200MHz makes little difference.

I was planning to get a Sony SZ Premium - this one. Now it's $1,849 with a T7500. This SZ is the same thing except it has a T7700; it goes for $1,999.
Not that I'd be unhappy with a T7500, but I like to get as much as I can for my money.

Very nice Sony, I like the 8400GS and X3100 very much. Wonder do you have complete control of which one is used? And Chaz it looks like you did your homework, anything else similar out there!

I believe it's like the older SZ's, you choose which one to boot to, and if you want to switch, you restart your machine.

Based on what I've seen with the Zepto I'd expect any machine with a T7700 to heat up like a furnace. I'd make sure you check reviews of any machine with a T7500 or T7700 for how the machine copes with heat before you buy.

Good choice on the SZ Chaz. I actually wanted one of these before I decided on my T60p. Now if only they would drop prices on the 667MHz C2Ds...I would really like to get a T7600 sub $300.
