hey, I did a search of the forums but I could not find an answer to this... can someone provide a list of what notebooks (available in barebones preferably) accept socket P processors?

the reason i ask is i just found out the barebones clevo M570RU i ordered is going to take over a month to come. I'm going to cancel my order, yet i've already ordered a processor, etc. so i am wondering if i can purchase another system barebones

All current notebook barebones are socket P, the previous generation was M.

The main difference that would tell you immediately is the motherboard's FSB, Socket M was 667mhz, Socket P is 800mhz.

Could a Penryn CPU be installed at the current Santa Rosa mobos??

Would it need a bios update?

Yes and most likely yes. I believe Penryn will first be going into the Santa Rosa notebooks in Q1 08, then there will be a new chipset with Montenivo (or whatever its called) in Q2 08.
I believe that it is likely to require a BIOS update, but its too early to know?

Regarding teh Quad Penryn CPU coming this year for notebooks:

'However, Intel has the part's interconnect down as Socket P' - no, that apostrophe isn't a typo, it indicates the interconnect is not the plain old Socket P found in today's Intel-based laptops.'

It does not look good. I'll be happy enough with a T9x00 series, but a quad core CPU would let me get the most from my 8800m GTS.
