Okay, I am buying a second monitor. I am really confused I am stuck between two 22" monitors. I want to buy the best, Price doesn't bother me. I am going to use it as a second monitor for a nice little setup.
Okay Here are the three monitors.
1. SAMSUNG 2253BW Black 22" 2ms(GTG) DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor with HDCP Support 300 cd/m2 DC 8000:1
2. SAMSUNG 226BW Black 22" 2 ms (GTG) Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 700:1(DC 3000:1)
The specs on these two monitors are nearly the same. First of all, what in the **** does DC 3000:1 mean? I noticed that monitor #1 or the 2253BW is DC 8000:1 opposed to monitor #2 or the 226BW's 3000:1.
Also, why would the 2253BW be like 40 bucks cheaper (not sure exactly, i didnt look) if it is the newer version and has a much better Contrast Ratio. I know a lot about many parts of the computer but I am unfamiliar with monitors.
If you look at the exact dimensions the 2253BW is smaller, not much but still by an inch if you add it all up. Not a huge deal at all. They are both Windows Certified. Although I tend to be leaning towards the outdated 226BW, I am not sure. The 2253BW also has two refresh rates, it says 5MS, 2MS. WTF does that mean. Is it not set to 2MS refresh rate like the other.
I REALLY NEED YOUR HELP! Please tell me which is better without looking or mentioning the price at all. I just need to know which will better suit my HP Laptop.

Would GTG mean Grey-to-Grey? That's what I'm guessing, and both monitors are the same in that aspect. My guess is that they didn't advertise the 5ms response time of the 226BW.
Sounds like it is a similar situation with Dynamic Contrast and True Contrast.

I'm not that impressed with Samsung monitors, the LGs I've seen are better.
-
which one is better? No one has answered that.
-
look here to help clear up the confusion caused by the 2 response times... http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/other/display/lcd-testmethods_5.html
-
thank you very much. Anyone know which to choose I have seen people choosing either way.

I believe when the widescreen ratio is set to 5:4, the response time goes up to 5ms. When the ratio is set to 4:3, the response time is 2ms. I own the Samsung 226BW and it's a great screen especially for gaming due to the low response time. In terms of brightness, sharpness, contrast etc, it's on par with other monitors.
The contrast ratio you ask about is basically the ratio of the brightest dot to the darkest dot the monitor can display - so essentially, the higher the contrast ratio, the better. The "DC" simply means dynamic contrast. -
The 2253 is of the same line as the 226, but is a newer model. Pick that one up. -

At first I got a LG L226WT for my desktop, but it wasn't as nice as I would've liked. I'm really happy with my Samsung 2253BW. Seriously, I customized both to my liking and the Samsung 2253BW looks a lot nicer, plus the LG suffered from really bad color bleed. The panel is great and the casing and bezel have a really nice look to it. Sure, the panel doesn't look as good as a high-end HDTV, but it's really, really nice for what it is. I wouldn't reccomend the Samsung 226BW because there's 3 different panels you can get, one of which is horrible, one is decent, and one is great. So far Samsung was smart enough to only manufacture one panel type for the 2253BW, which looks better than the great 226BW panel. The dynamic contrast ratio is a gimmick and is pretty annoying, I'd really recommend keeping it off. If you get it, for the most accurate and best-looking colors I'd recommend setting the color tone to "Warm", anything else looks unnatural. The game and movie presets Samsung actually did a great job with, they bring out the best in movies and games. Overall, I'd recommend the Samsung 2253BW over any other 22" on the market.

Thank you last two posters very mch that helps a lot, anyone else have reviews for this monitor?

If you've narrowed your choices down to those, just get the Samsung L2253BW, it's newer, has better specs, and looks nicer. You won't be disappointed. Trust me, I read a lot about every decent panel on the market and this is the best one by a nice amount.

well Im open for any other selections. Do you have any? It needs to be Vista Compatible and at least 22" but not super expensive

Ever monitor will be Vista-compatible. That's just something brands add to confuse customers. These are the nicest displays on the market if you're open to spending significantly more:
http://www.apple.com/displays/
They use the highest-quality LCD panels (S-IPS), the same HDTVs and professionals use. You'll notice a huge difference if you want to spend the extra money. You can expect the price to come down and Apple to update the specs by the summer. -
Not gonna buy an apple at those prices atm, any other good screens?
I had seen a gateway that would let me play HD XBOX360. This is the link. I am considering getting this but I need to know that it is Vista Compatible for sure. Also, is it possible to use a standard Audio 1/8" jack to hook up to this HDMI out port? Please tell me, because I wouldnt have sound without it due to the lack of built in speakers. Doesn't bother me because I love the ones I have so much. I need to make sure that it can hook up to a standard audio cable or I will have no way to play with sound. The link to the Gateway HD2200 Black-Silver 22" 4ms DVI HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 1000:1 is here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824113011&Tpk=Gateway+22%22+LCD.
Please help me out, and I need to be positive it is Vista compatable. -

What's the most you want to spend? Is 22" the only size? The Samsung 2253BW is the best 22" on the market (I've did a lot of research to make sure I found the perfect monitor).
-
Well I like the Gateway a lot and I need to know if it compatible. I want it so I can play HD Xbox but I need to know if I can use HDMI OUT for sound.. I dont want anything smaller then a 22. So is an HDMI out port compatible with a standard 1/8 audio jack?

HDMI-DVI converter and you're good. The funny thing is, Gateway doesn't produce their own panels, so you're have the chance of getting 3 or 4+ different brands of panels (Sharp, LG, Samsung, Sony, Toshiba, etc.) in Gateway's exterior, and I haven't heard too many good things about Gateway's monitors. I'm still recommending the Samsung 2253BW (BTW, that's what I have in front of me as I'm typing this).
-
i dont get any of the ****ing converter ****. I will just get the one you gots and forget stupid xbox

You get a cable like this (HDMI-DVI):
http://www.cablestogo.com/product.asp?cat_id=3602&sku=40319
Then plug the HDMI side into your Xbox and the DVI side into your monitor. If we're talking about the original Xbox and not the 360, games that don't support 1080p or atleast 1080i will look like**** on a 1680x1050 monitor. -
im talking about a 360
-
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
Get a HDMI-DVI cable like this:
http://www.cablestogo.com/product.as...3602&sku=40319
Then plug the HDMI side into your Xbox 360 and the DVI side into your monitor., and you should be good. Decided on your monitor yet? -
im liking the 2253BW.. That link is dead send another?

You can them as cheap as $10 in stores, but a lot of the online brands that sell them as cheap are usually pretty shoddy ones. -
