Just curious! For instance, all of my stuff plugs into one of three four-port USB hubs. One of these days, I'd love it if could all be wireless between the hub and the computer. That way, it could FINALLY get this darn cord mess a little less troublesome.

Any thoughts? If wireless hubs come around I'd certainly consider picking two or three up!

why don't u get wireless devices instead of wireless hubs? BT mouse instead of usb? and like such for other components... but yeah, there are some things that just require usb... but DAYYUM!?!? 12 USB PORTS USED UP!?!?!? WTF U GOT?!?!? lol!

That's what BT is, rather BT wants to be.

Well, the problem is that I didn't have BT when I got all that stuff...and most of it doesn't have a BT version anyway!

Note...I'm close to filling all them up. I also have a forth (unused) hub in my 20" Dell Monitor. I've got 9 USB devices that are connected to the PC at all times, but I've daisychained some of the hubs so that I only need to plug in two USB cords on the docking station. This leaves only 5 USB ports open between the three hubs for memory sticks and future stuff...3 of those ports are on the monitor.

I could have gone with less hubs, but then I would have had to start moving things around so that cords would reach. Most of the devices have short cords to the hubs, and the hubs have long ones to the computer. Cord Management 101. USB Addition 102!

Once again, what in the world are you doing to need 9 USB devices hooked up all the time? What kind of devices do you have?

Yeah, 9 USB devices hook up all the same time? Thats alot. I only use one USB device, mainly to charge up my PDA. All the the rest are built-in into the notebook.

My sig has the list of stuff...believe it or not I actually do use most of that stuff on a daily basis. The external HDDs are perfect for DVR and backup capabilities, the game stuff for fun (obviously), and most everything else is for college use.

BT needs to be cheaper / more widespread before it will catch on like USB has. Not only that, but plug in a USB mouse or thumb drive and Windows / OSX just makes them work. Simple, quick, convenient.

Wireless USB will probably KILL BT, once it is around. Question is...will it show up?

BT is essentially wireless USB. You don't seem to get it. It's just that people aren't making devices for it, really. Why make a new spec when you have a perfectly usable one existing in many, many devices?

Hence the question: will someone develop a small dongle that will act as a wired-to-wireless USB bridge. BT TV Tuner...no...BT External HDD...no...DVD+/-RW...no. I'm taking about a device that can be used to further the usefulness of USB devices which have NO BT equivalents.

Given that not a lot of people make BT devices (and I still don't know why), there would be a market for this type of device.

I get it perfectly, but some people just can't use BT the way it was intended because of a lack of products.

Do you have any idea the kind of bandwidth in the EM spectrum that you're talking about? You don't have those things because they're technically impossible, and illegal according to the FCC. You can't transmit that much power without a license.

They already make a USB wired-to-wireless bridge. It's called a bluetooth adapter. It's just that bluetooth, and pretty much any wireless technology, will not support the kind of bandwidth and signal stability required for the applications you're proposing. There's a reason high-bandwidth devices are still wired (hard drives, high-speed networking, tv tuners, scanners, etc.), and low-bandwidth are all that's moved to wireless (input devices, basically).

Wireless isn't magic. The radio spectrum is far from clutter-free. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean your house isn't electro-magnetically noisier than the worst rats-nest of cables you can think of. All this energy comes from and goes to somewhere, and interferes with itself and other devices.

BT is a great idea, but IMO is currently not well implemented. The devices randomly connect and disconnect, I can't use my headphones and mouse at the same time, range is rather short, etc. If they could revise the BT specs or replace it with something that supports a bunch of devices well, I'd be happy.

Hehehe...I swear that vendors browse these forums for ideas.

New product that might be the beginning of Wireless USB HERE.
