    Hi All

I have a sony Vaio laptop model VGN FJ1S.

I tried to hook up my firewire 410 soundcard to the i s400 (1394) 4 pin port. However the found new hardware wizard will not come up. It seems that the port on my pc is not recognizing that something is plugged into it??

I have gone into device manager and disabled /enabled TI OHCI compliant 1394 host controller to no avail. I have scoured the net far and wide for a driver for this TI host controller but cannot find one ANYWHERE?? I cannot update the driver over the net as the vaio is not hooked up (I'm writing this from another pc).

If anyone has had a similar problem or can shed some light on why my firewire port is not registering connected device please please help.

I know it is not a problem with 1394 cable or the firewire 410 it is something to do with the i s400 port /driver

    many thanks in advance

    Hi

Firewire cards can be touchy. What you can do is:
    1) Check if the Firewire card connects well to another machine?
    2) Do you need to install any drivers for the card? What does the manufacturer say?

    Hi Mate

    thanks for the quick reply!

The firewire 410 soundcard works perfectly on another laptop with an identicle 4 pin port and on my desktop pc via 6 pin port.

The problem definately lies with the actual port on the vaio laptop. I guess what I am asking here is where i can download the appropriate 1394 driver for the actual port on the laptop (not the driver for 410). I am guessing that if I can update the driver for the port it may recognize the 410?? when i look in device manager it shows the installed 1394 driver as TI OHCI Compliant 1394 host controller. I have looked everywhere for a driver for this controller but cannot find it??? or any generic driver for laptop firewire ports?

The driver for the firewire 410 installs perfectly , but to complete installation it requires a reboot and then to follow the found new hardware wizard. This is my problem , the laptop is not picking up any connected device, and so the found new hardware wizard will not start and i cannot use the 410. I have therefore concluded that the problem is the firewire port on the laptop. Although all seems well in device manager and the TI OHCI Compliant host controller is showing as working correctly??

Am i shooting in the dark here ?? I have downloaded the drivers for my model laptop from the sony vaio website but there is no driver for 1394 interfaces?? I am well stuck mate any info is welcome
