Hey everyone, my laptop is an Acer Extensa 5620Z with a T2330 and I was wondering which possible upgrades I could do.

When I bought the laptop the same laptop was being offered under different descriptions, some vendors said it was a GM965 and other said its a GL960... I bought from one that said GL960.

When I fired up everest it said that it had no idea what my motherboard was and that my processor is a T2330.

However, when I used CPU-Z it said that I have a Socket P Merom Core 2 Duo T5200, but it only showed me 2 cores. It also says that I have a GM965 with 533 FSB.

Furthermore, when I used the Acer tool that gives me all of this info it doesn't say anything about my MB, all it says is that my CPU is a Dual Core T2330 and that I have 1GB Ram and that I can expand to 2GB of Ram.

Also my Bios is Phoenix 1.27

I would like to know which Motherboard/CPU I'm running, If I can really only expand my Ram to 2GB and if I can upgrade my CPU in the future to say a T5 series or T7 series, is there a newer better bios for my laptop?

    Thank You.

PS I attached the CPUZ and Everest diagnostics

You will be able to upgrade your ram to 2GB for sure, you just 2 sticks of 1GB PC2-4200 or PC2-5300, they both work, and make sure its Sodimm and 200pin. Check out the hot ram deals.
I think there is already a thread about upgrading a T2230 cpu, try looking around. But I'm pretty sure you can.
For your BIOS goto the Acer support page, there should be all the updates for you laptop there, but if it ain't broke, don't do anything with it, especially the BIOS, if you do do the BIOS update, don't do it in windows.

First of all, CPUZ is not always right, so take those results with a grain of salt. Specially if it's all over the place.

Second, you've one of those infernal GL960s.

I quote myself concerning the GL960:

Essentially, the general gist of the matter is that you can most probably upgrade to any Socket P 667MHz C2D, but that won't always be the case. I really think it's a hit or miss with this GL960, but no one seems to have missed yet...

Thank you Commander Wolf, I am not planning to upgrade my CPU at the moment anyway, I will upgrade my RAM to 3gb however (if it works). I will only upgrade CPU once prices have dropped significantly. So I do have a GL960...

Everything Commander Wolf said is on to something! It is going to take a while until someone solves this. In CW link calls the CPU 2330 a Core 2 Duo it is actually a Pentium Dual Core. In my link different company but Pentium Dual Core 2310. Both have 533 FSB but both say they have DDR II PC5300/5400 @677Mhz? How that works on a 533Mhz FSB is beyound me. Here is an Intel chipset identification info page w/instructions on identifying, link. I think you should use it to determine what you have.

It is clear that Intel GL960 CPU info is incorrect or both Toshiba and Acer don't what what chipset they are using. If the GL960 only supports 533Mhz FSB it looks upgrading to a T5300 1.73Ghz Core 2 Duo, if it supports faster FSB you could go even higher.

Right now it is looking like other than possible FSB limits on GL960. The difference is PM965 only has Discrete graphics, GM965 offers both Discrete and Integrated sometimes on the same notebook, GL960 only supports Integrated. All appear to support the Core 2 Duo architecture, Intel says GL and GM support Celerons. Also Chipsets might have come out before Pentium Dual cores and tech info has not been updated. The new Celerons are Core 2 architecture. And this looks very much like the marketing withholding complete and accurate info. Anyone who knows more please share because the available information is incomplete and or contradictory.

Let us know if 3GB works as Intel says it will not. And use link in above post to see what Intel utility says you have. Because we really don't know for sure what you have.
