Well if how you handle things depends on how expensive it cost then you might want to relook your outlook on life.
Eg. A parallel is to how you handle people according to how rich they are. (Not saying you are doing it but just a analogy)

Basically, I look at laptops and cellular phones as things that will suffer a fair amount of wear and tear. Whether I get a really expensive item or a cheaper one, after a year or two, well I will feel like replacing them. So it is a matter of how much depreciation cost am I willing to suffer in a year. A netbook cost me US$15 a month, a small notebook like the 1830T would cost me US$25 a month by my estimation.

But yes, I do handle things by how expensive they cost. I really see nothing wrong with that. I have two "tool" watches. An old Swiss Watch, which despite its heritage as a divers and military watch, never really gets to go underwater or anywhere really interesting and a Casio G-Shock Mudman which is what I take with me when I hike, swim or do anything where I am worried about scratching my other watch.

But we digress. The last part of my decision making process was whether to go for the 3820T or the 1830T. In a strange way, the MBA gave me something in between the two.

The MBA is the weight of the 1830T and the size of the 3820T.

I guess when you carry a bag and use it on a desk, weight is what matters most.

But if you tuck it under your shoulder or carry it around in a sleeve, use it during flights or even on the small table at Sturbucks, 10.1"~11.6" is still the best way to go. I would be willing to sacrifice performance for form factor, and in that sense, the low powered CULV's would be worth it even if they do not give a longer battery life.

If I had made the buy decision this thread had led me too, I would have made the correct one. Thanks again. If my 6510B croaks on me, I am getting the 1830T :)

How offended would your client be if you eBay'd your bonus and got what you really want/need? (And kept the change in your pocket too).

Can't do that. It's a gift. Besides, I am a creature of habit on the conservative side. Sometimes it may be better to let someone else decide. This is a lot flashier than I am used too... but lets give it a go.

I understand ('it's a gift), so only one thing to do:

    Enjoy the bling!

I dont know if anyone mentioned this but go to notebookreview.net and look at there benchmark table and compare the performance between the 2 cpus. You gave 2 cpus with 8 hours of battery life...in that situation it really comes down to which is faster since 40 mins is trivial. Also i made a thread earlier talking about the new nanowire batteries. They are just starting to come out into the market. I have heard of only one random type of battery with nanowires but batteryspace.com has told me they are trying to get more kinds from a supplier. So i am hoping/assume that they will be out this year. So your 8 hours of battery life will become more like 3-10 times that. I have not heard of any specs of the nanowire batteries coming out into the market but the two articles about the 2 seperate reseachers got 3x and 10x the capacity of current Li-ion batteries.
