Something wrong with my hard drive?

For the past 3 weeks or so, randomly 2-3 times a day the computer will get COMPLETELY stuck for 2-3 seconds and as I am wearing headphones I hear a "stucking" sound....cant really describe it.

Also I have noticed that when I go into folder with images or videos the thumbnails always taking a long time to load....it was not like that before.

I guess its something wrong with my hard drive?

    Thanks.

it sounds more like an OS problem,if it was hdd related, you would get SMART error notices at startup most of the time, it COULD be the hard drive, does it make alot of noise, or scratching sounds?

well before you do that, do some cleaning of the os, use CCleaner on it and clean the registry and some other things try that before dumping your OS

    defrag your harddrive too.

If you think that your HDD might be faulty you can scan it using Windows' Scandisk, or go to your HDD manufacturer website and use its scanning/repair software.

Awaisuk you may want to get a ultimate boot cd (google it) and run a few hard drive tests to be sure... If you have anything important on the notebook you may want to invest in a backup if you don't have one already.

Also, on that UBCD (ultimate boot cd) there are memory tests also, you may want to run a memtest.

    1. Get HD tune and do a health check.. if u have dead sectors , time for new drive.
    2. If u don't have any bad sectors, then try defraging using SmartDefrag... best defrag program i have used... i do fast optimise...
    3. Use tune-up utilites 2010 to clean registry etc... i usually use it with CCleaner..
    4. use the DPC latency check tool... latencies due to bad drivers might be ur problem..

    5. And lastly , if u can't diagonise anything , do a clean install... i had driver problem and just did clean install.. no problems now.
