Which is faster of the 2? I'm gonna use it for gaming.
Sonoma 2.0ghz comes with Go6600, 1gb ram and 1.6ghz dual core comes with x1600 w/ 512mb ram.

The Core Duo won't as fast in single threaded applications, but it doe give you that extra core, and that makes it worth buying. More and more applications are becoming multi-threaded, so they will be able to take advantage of that second core. With a dual core system, the notebook generally feels slot more snappier, and you can multitask alot better with one.
Graphics wise, the Mobility X1600 is faster than the Go 6600, and RAm doesn't really matter all too much, because it can be replaces very easily. RAM prices these days are also quite low. -
The 2nd system with dual core & x1600 will be a lot faster in gaming although you need to upgrade the ram to at least 1GB. Upgrade the ram yourself, it's usually much cheaper that way. You can get them from places like newegg.com

thanks for the quick inputs guys. a certain friend is opting to swap his laptop (dual core) for mine (sonoma) straight swap. i was wondering if it's worth the jump. and yeah, i can easily buy another stick to make it 1gb or probably make it 2gb if funds permit.
what is the equivalent of the 1.6ghz dual core in pentium 4? i saw the sonoma 2.0 ghz is equivalent to pentium 4 3.0-3.2ghz. would it be higher? -
Intel® Core Duo® T2050 1.66 GHz, 533MHz Dual-Core - 478pin - 2 MB
that's what it says..
my sonoma is a 2.0ghz, 533mhz with 2mb cache as well. -
anybody got a clue?

The 1.6Ghz Core Duo with only one core should probably match, or beat out the Pentium-M, due to the increase in L2 Cache and the architecture improvements, and thats only with one core. The GPU will be faster as well.
Its hard to compare two different CPUs with completely different architectures. The P4 was all about pure Ghz, while the new Core Duos and Core 2 Duos are all about L2 Cache size and the rate at which the cores can communicate. Despite the fact that they have a much lower clock rate, they are much zippier than any P4 could hope to be, without it doubling as a commercial grade heater due to the massive amount of heat it would generate at the clock speeds it would need to compete. -
