Why are Sony's notebook batteries so freakin' expensive? Maybe to subsidize the MASSIVE RECALL?

[NONE of the prices below include any taxes or shipping expenses.]

For the VGN-FE890, an UPGRADE to the Large Capacity Lithium-ion Battery (BPL2C) is $100 extra. And if you want a SPARE battery you will surly EAT-IT BIG: Standard Capacity = $200 and Large Capacity = $300!

Compare those prices to the UPGRADE options for the HP dv6000t (with the APP Discount):
    - High Capacity 6-Cell +$29
    - 12-Cell +$49
    - 6-Cell & 12-Cell +$129
    - TWO 12-Cells +$178

Also compare to the Dell E1505, the most expensive upgrade option is to receive TWO 9-Cells for an additional $128.

What is going on here? Sony is really sucking it HARD! When will Sony prices be competitive, if ever?

It's about right, you pay for a Sony anyways(usually overpriced), thus you pay for an overpriced battery :p

There's not much you can do, since if you need a battery, you'll have to buy one. Third Party battery exists, but whether they are recommended, that's up to you.

Nothing to do with subsidising a recall, Sony are extortionists when it comes to accessories....
