    Hey guys,

I'm considering switching from my current Core i5 to i7-640M. First question, is it possible, will the chipset support it and do I have to change the AC adaptor? This is just a DualCore, so it shouldn't be so power-demanding.

Is is even worth changing or better is to find some GPU solution (I've got 330m gt equipped, but it's quite primitive GPU).

IMO that upgrade isn't really worth it. You are going from Arrandale to Arrandale. i7 dual cores only offer slightly faster clock speeds, slightly more cache and higher turbo ratios. Unless you are getting the i7 for free, I would advise against it.

You can try this thread DIY Dock.

I can buy it at almost no cost (50 € ;). I can't change anything right now, bought another 4 GB RAM for the lappy, got 6 GB right now. Switched to Seagate Momentus XT. Changing laptop isn't considered, I'm happy with the resolution and the laptop itself - looks really nice.

Well 72 USD isn't bad, but then sell your i5 to recoup some of the money you spend. If you could get like 20-30 for it then 40 bucks IMO isn't horrible deal (than something paying 180 USD for it).

Though both are "35 watt TDP" the i7 will run slightly hotter due to the clock speeds. And in real world use you will not see a real difference, maybe rendering/compiling.
