I just bought a sony SA laptop with 4gb ddr3 ram. I want to upgrade to 8gb. The guys at microcenter told me to just buy the micro center brand ddr3 ram chips. Do I have to have a certain type or brand of ram? Any suggestions?

I think the 4gb is permanent with one open slot

The MicroCenter stuff should work fine. You should get the same speed if you can, but it won't make much of a difference.
