    Hey everyone,

I get my brand new SZ160 via UPS today and I had a quick question. I was able to score the Muskin 2GB 667mhz PC2-5300 pack of memory from Fry's/Outpost for only $180 (after tax).

I also bought 2GB woth of the PC2-5300 667mhz Corsair Value Memory which will cost me $240 (after tax and $20 mail in rebate).

My question is, should I just stick with the Muskin at $60 cheaper, or is Corsair really that much better ans worth the extra $ as I seem to be reading on different forums?

Any and all input is truly appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Hayden

I have the 2gb mushkin 667 and it works great. how did you get it for $180?

I paid $120 for each 1GB just last week from FRY's?

Well I went into a Dell forum where people were saying that they found Mushkin PC2-4200 533Mhz Memory at Fry's mislabeled and it was really PC2-5300 667Mhz. I went to Fry's, picked it up, and indeed while the sticker said PC2-4200, the actually memory chips say 667Mhz. It runs $169.99 before tax!

I figured its a good deal so I'll just stick with the Mushkin as long as it works.

    Thanks for everyones help!

Do you have a link to this thread? I want to know if this is still available so I can take advantage of this mistake.

Mushkin is good memory. I would keep it, especially for the huge difference in price.

While you have both, you should install and benchmark to see if there is any difference. I doubt it, but it would be interesting anyway.

yes, could you please do some memory bandwidth benchmark (Sandra?) to see is there any difference running the stock PC4200 4-4-4-12 memory vs the PC5300 but at much slower latence 5-5-5-15?? I

I really wanna see if it's worth to upgrade for the higher speed grade but slower latence memory......

Until u can somehow change the memory divider setting (SZ runs the DDR-667 memory @533), u won't notice any performance gain or benchmark score difference at all. :(

If that is the case, doesn't that mean if you are using 667 on the SZ, you may actually take a performance hit? Isn't the 533 lower latency?

No, it's not. When the DDR2 667 RAM is running @533, it also meant that the latency was set as if the RAM was DDR2 533 which is 4-4-4-12. :)
