I have a Sony VAIO VGN N365E running Windows Vista. I recently restored the computer to its original factory settings. The touchpad has been giving me problems - it clicks/taps by itself randomly; tapping stops working at times but will start working again at random times. I've used an external USB mouse and it still has the same problems (I didn't disable the touchpad though). I've update the drivers several times. I've also removed the drivers, rebooted Windows to let it load the default drivers - and the problem still remains. Any idea what this might be? - it seems hardware related, which is my biggest fear.
Thanks in advance.

Try a Linux boot disc to rule out drivers.
But it sounds like you have a defective touchpad. -
Yeah I believe it's defective also. It seems VAIO notebooks have touchpad problems all the time.
On a completely unrelated sidenote - judging by your account picture I would say you are a Haruhi fan - definitely go watch The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya if you haven't seen it yet - great movie. -
There is a Sony section in this thread... look thereNever had a problem with the touchpad, so do 99% of all owners..

Of all the Sony's I service under warranty, they very rarely have issues with the touch pad. Most come in for bad hard drives, AC adapters, and motherboards, all common issues with almost all other manufacturers.
