Hi im new to this forum so just want to say hi to everyone first. My question today for you is i have two sony Vaio Laptops. One of them is the VGN-NR32L Which i plan to keep and one is a VGN-NS10J which i plan to sell.
I noticed the NS10J has a Dual Core T5800 Cpu running at 2.00Ghz And the NR32L also a dual core T2390 running at 1.86Ghz now can i swap these CPU's straight over will they fit. I tried the RAM as the NS10J has 3.00Gb And the other 2.00Gb but i kept getting blue screen on my NR32L so i take it dont support it.
The VGN-NS10J also has Webcam can this be transferred over also?
Thank You for your help and co-operation in this matter.

Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong. The two processors use the same socket (Socket P) so the CPU should be transferable. The RAM should be transferable as well since they are both DDR2. Are you sure they're seated properly when you switch them? It shouldn't cause a blue screen, but I could be wrong.
I don't know how you would be able to transfer the webcam over...it's kind of built into the bezel...I'm sure you could take it apart and unscrew the webcam from the lid but your NR won't have a hole at that spot to support a webcam. -
Hi iNoob, Thanks alot for your response. I managed to get the ram working eventually. Im going to take apart both laptops and see if they are same CPU and swap them.
In regards to the webcam both laptops have the same bezel/screen so it would be interchangable without but the question is is there somewhere on the motherboard to connect the webcam to?
Thank You -
Intel® Pentium® Processor T2390 (1M Cache, 1.86 GHz, 533 MHz FSB)

Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T5800 (2M Cache, 2.00 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)

These are the general specification. They have alot of different spec cater to thier customers. Im not sure how you get the ram working, and the motherboard should be able to fit if the socket fits them but doesn't look wise to be placing a T5800 on to a older motherboard which supported a lower spec processer.
I could be wrong but would be advisable to look up more in detail first. Judging a book by is cover is always a bad call. They look the same but won't taste the same -
Yes, you can swap processors. You may need to update to the latest revision for it to support a newer processor.
The ram is similar, but likely different speeds. While you can mix and match memory speeds, the system will then down-clock the speed of all the ram to match the slowest memory installed.
I believe the max memory the NR32L can have is 2GB, so that is probably the cause of your blue-screen. -
Thanks alot everyone for your feedback ive got caught up with something so didnt get chance to swap the CPU's over.
I have however tried the RAM again and seem's to be working now.
Regarding updating to latest revision do u mean updating the BIOS?
I didnt realise the FSB and Cache. Lol. What difference would the extra 1mb cache make and FSB of 800Mhz?
Does anyone know if i will be able to put the webcam on the NR32L. Would there be somewhere i can plug it in on the motherboard i know it will mount in place etc.
Thank You.
EDIT: Sorry guys done some research and found out what L2 Cache does, This is what i found:
The main advantage of cache is it is significantly faster to access then main memory. So the more cache you have, the more data it can store and the less often the CPU has to access main memory. However, it's not a "night and day" difference increasing the cache. Plus the cache generates heat and draws power so the more of it you have, the greater the impact on battery life as well as performance.
So In view its as a "nice have", but not a "must have". -

Thanks Mate. One last thing i didnt know whether to make a post here or make a new thread on the sony section but according to sony the nr32L is not yet compatible with windows 7 but i cant see how not? I would like to upgrade to win 7. If i did should i install 32 bit or 64 bit? They dont have upgraded drivers for win 7 but say win vista drivers may work. Thanks.

Thank You -
Hey Smurf.. You can install Windows 7. As you mentioned, Sony may not provide actual Windows 7 drivers. If they have the Vista x64 drivers available, just use those. If they do not, then it's up to you. You can install x32 and use the x32 Vista drivers that Sony should have out there, or you can scour the internet until you find the drivers you need for x64. Windows 7 has a pretty good built in library of drivers. Windows 7 shouldn't take more than 30-45 minutes to install (hopefully) so if I were you I'd try out x64 first and if you run into problems, start over with x32.
