Just an FYI for those of you who like to upgrade older laptops: I have successfully upgraded a Sony Vaio to 1 GB of RAM when the maximum RAM for my model quoted by Sony is 512 MB. Windows XP runs seamlessly now on my Vaio PCG-GR270K (I know, it's an old laptop!) with the RAM upgrade in which the techs at Sony said would be incompatible.

The Intel Chipset 82830 MP with this Vaio model is fully compatible with 512 MB PC 133 MHz SODIMM SDRAM, 144-PIN, on E-Bay now for $30.

If you have an older Vaio GR series( or other) laptop which runs slowly with the maximum amount of 512 MB RAM, try replacing the two 256 sdram modules with 512 MB modules even though Sony advises not to do so. If you
have an Intel 830 MP chipset, you will most likely see a dramatic performance boost.
