OK Got a question we have a sony viao PCG-K13. Processor is a SL6PF wich is a 2.8ghz/512/533fsb since its a 478 socket I wanted to upgrade it to a 2.8ghz/1mb/800fsb but the bios will not let it boot was wondering if any one else has made this upgrade and found bios that work with this processor. Cause this computer slow as dooty. LMAO

    Thanks Snaps

Your motherboard may not support 800MHz FSB processors. What is the chipset?
Even if it does, that extra 512k cache and 800MHz FSB is not going to make any noticeable difference, at most 1~3%.

I am pretty sure yours only supports Pentium 4 processors with a 533Mhz FSB. So the fastest you are going to get is the 3.06Ghz processor. Remember you need to get the mobile version, because their is also a 3.06Ghz desktop processor.
I think the only difference is the power usage.

1Gb is the maximum memory you can install in the laptop

Do a clean install of windows XP instead, that would give you the best boost for your time trying to make it fast :)

That notebook should be pretty fast with XP and just using it for web-surfing, watching videos and such things.

I did the full reboot it is a lot better and i got her a 160 gb external so she could put her files on there. the weird part is the mobile processor is a 479 which is what the socket says but a 478 socket is in there. That's why i thought i could use that processor

479 is to indicate it's a mobile CPU, thus the CPU has 478pins.

The main thing is to get a CPU with correct FSB-speed (the same FSB or lower) not any higher or it will most probably not work, of course a mobile CPU :)

What is a "full reboot" ?

Mentioning about HDD, you could always upgrade the HDD in the notebook for a 7200rpm model, that will speed up pretty much if it has a 5400rpm or slower HDD init now. That makes a noticeable performance increase for almost everyone doing this.
