I have a Sony Vaio VPCEB14FD. The Notebook won't close properly. It hangs open about half an inch because the hinges are loose. I've had the laptop for 2 months. Any way to fix this myself?

Yes for the most part. You need open the top portion of the laptop up:
Take caution/appropriate judgement when prying objects off, if it's too hard to remove it's likely there's a screw holding it down or it has it's "right" way to pop off.
1. power bezel. Typically this will snap off, however check for screws under the laptop that light up with the bezel.
2. keyboard since the ribbon of the power cable may be under it.
3. Check for screws below the laptop that may align with the keyboard, and hinges. Typically keyboard screw(s) are labeled "K".
Once you pop the bezel out you should see the hinges, tighten any screws as per the actual hinges post a picture.. -
thanks but I'm going to see if the warranty will cover this. I have NO experience in taking laptops apart, i'm afraid of breaking something or voiding the warranty. I will post a follow-up to help others. Thank you though.

H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Apple is the only company to get the "latchless" lid done right. Magnets is all it takes. Why is that so hard for other OEM's to understand?!

Ditto never had a latchless problem before either.

My Vaio also closes perfectly now... so does my Lenovo.
People should finally understand that Apple was only for a very short time ahead in the game... at the moment - FAR behind!
TUBULARMAN - send it for repair! I wouldn't take it apart if I were you - it is still in warranty! It definitely covers such issues. -
I have the same problem with my FZ. I don't care about it now.
