    Dear all,

    I own a VGN-FS31M from SONY.
Now after upgrading the HDD (from 80GB to 500 GB) I would also like to upgrade the CPU (now: INTEL (R) M 1.73MhZ). Could please somebody tell me which CPU could better fit into my laptop and where I could buy it?

    Thanks a lot,

    Luca

I cannot find any specifics on your system.
Can you download CPU-Z and upload a image of the CPU and Motherboard Tabs.
CPU-Z is a free program, and it can be downloaded from cpuid's website

Chances are it can be upgraded, but I am not sure what socket your system has.

If it is a Pentium M then you won’t be able to upgrade to a dual core, buying another slightly faster Pentium M will not give you any significant improvement to justify the cost. You should have bought a new notebook without upgrading anything, because a new low end dual core notebook is only around $500 right now, which will be a lot better than that Sony even with all possible upgrades. If you don't have money to get a new one now, then save what you have for a future upgrade.

If you don't already have at least 2GB of RAM then upgrade that, a RAM upgrade will give better performance boost compared to a CPU upgrade. But before you buy new RAM, check your motherboard manual and check the supported RAM type and maximum capacity. Or you can use Crucial System Scanner tool
