I have a Sony Viao GRX570. I bought it new and it has a 1.67 P4, 512 RAM, 40 GB Harddrive, CD RW/DVD Player, and 16.1 screen. I was wondering if there is anything that I could upgrade to improve it's performance. I've had it since May 2002 and with the way things progress I'd hope there might be opportunities to improve it. The battery no longer hold a decent charge. I've seen replacements for $100. Any aftermarket ones that would give me longer life than the 2.something hours I used to get? Lastly, I have a video out minipin. Did Sony ever make a cable that allowed for it's use...say to play DVDs to my TV? Thanks for your help. (Won't ask anyone about upgrading video cards...The answer appears to be no!)

Ditto for me. I own an identical unit purchased around the same date as well!

To optimize, go to Barnes and Noble and get a copy, in the magazine rack, of THE PC BUILDING BIBLE (published by PC GAMER) that costs around $9.95USD. It features an article entitled Tweak and Optimize Windows to Perfection.

Also, at this forum, is an excellent thread covering optimizing notebook computers:

I've used both sources and my VAIO GRX570 runs faster than ever!
