Do you plan on gaming or no? And the P8400 from the specs should do what your asking it to do? But you need to know what CPU you currently have in you laptop and what socket it uses to be sure but do you know what the production of that laptop was?
This is also something you should consider before changing the CPU if you going this route??

Even if it is possible to do with your laptop, it is not worth it. Core 2 Duo/Quad CPUs are at least 2-3 generations behind. It's not worth putting any additional money in to an obsolete CPU platform.
If you want a performance upgrade, spend $200 to get a 256GB SSD. That upgrade will give you significant performance boost today (MUCH more than you would ever get from a CPU upgrade), and will be a component that you can carry over into your next system. If you want an idea of what an SSD can do, check out some of the videos in my signature, which actually uses a Core 2 Duo generation laptop I bought back in mid-2007.
