Sorry if this has been asked and answered. I'm looking to add more ram to my Dell 6000. I ran CPU-Z and believe that my current two 256 meg ddr2 chips are 400 mhz.

My question is: Would two 512 meg 533 speed chips (1 gig total) out perform a setup of a one gig chip and 256 meg chip (1.25 gig total) running at 400 speed?

My concern is making sure that I'm using the optimal setup in terms of dual channel ability.

    Thanks for your help.

i would bet the 1.25 gig ram would be better... just because more memory tends to be best for the most noticable amount of difference. granted they are a slower clock speed but I heard between 533 mhz and 400 mhz it's really not that much more difference... same with from going from 1.5 gig ram to 1.76 gigs of ram....

    for most people it's negliable

    Dell I6000d
    1.86 ghz
    1 gig 400mhz ram
    80 gig HD
    Intel Pro 2915 a/b/g Wireless
    15.4 " WXGA
    Ati X300 128 mb
    Nec Dvd +- RW 6500A

I forgot to mention for things to work in dual mode... they have to be the same exact ram chips...

Ie 2 dell 512 mb chips... works in dual 1 dell 512 mb / 1 cosair 512 mb chip will not be considered dual

Basically that's why they come in the 512, 1gig, 2 gig combinations and not liek 768 1.25, 1.5 combinations....
