The Audigy HD is a sound card that comes with a lot of Dell notebooks.

Dell likes to say that it gives you "Ultra-Realistic Surround Sound"

Are their claims true? Does it actually give you high quality sound? Is it much better than the standard Integrated High Definition Audio?

I know that there are a lot of Dell owners in the forum. Perhaps someone could give their feedback.

    Thanks

I've head one before and it's, well, meh. All laptop audio is meh. There's no such thing as hi-fi from internal laptop sound. That includes PCMCIA or ExpressCard devices.

Spend your money on parts that make a difference like RAM or HDD. Upgrading to a Hitachi 7k200 will make it feel like a whole new laptop.

What dell offers as Audigy HD isn't a sound card. It's just software, that uses your integrated sound card. Not worth the money.

indeed. It's just software. if it was hardware, that would've been different. It's like adding $30 more for a software that virtually improves your RAM by virtually adding another 1gb

that X-fi notebook card is the best sound card from Creative Labs. The only downfall though is that it does not support ASIO nor is it hardware accelerated. I was thinking about getting one but the ASIO is something I need.

Forget about getting the "Audigy HD" crap as noted - it's a ripoff. You're paying for a small piece of software that takes up a lot of resources.

There really is no point to getting a sound card with a Vista machine because Vista doesn't have DirectSound support. The sound processing is done by the CPU.
