My new Logitec z4 speakers, I find, are really nice for the price: I gogt them on $50 clearance from Circuit City, so I feel I got a good deal. My question is that, on occasion, they crackle: Does this have to do the with the generic soundcard that I got from Dell (which crckles intermittently when played through the laptop speakers and, when plugged directly in w/ headphones, gives me a buzzing sound) and would I be better served by getting and external soundcard to avoid these crackles?

the buzzing is due to the laptop, the crackling is due to vista. i have an external soundblaster and i get the sound skipping once and a while...lots others do too. i havent found a fix yet...
