Hi, I have a HP Pavilion dv9000 and recently I had an accident where I think I busted the headphones jack on the notebook. It still plays sound out of the external speakers if I plug them in, but when I pull the headphone plug sound does not play on the computer speakers. I want to just disable that one headphones jack because there is a spare jack.

Is there a place where I can disable headphone jacks so they don't cause my computer to go mute?

    Thanks for the help.

Hmmm, I don't really know of anything like that. Try your sound card's config. program in Control Panel. Look for something that has the brand of your soundcard's name in it. I did just read on a forum that someone had the same problem and stuffed aluminum foil in the jack though that's probably not the best solution.

Yeah, it seems like there should be an application to disable that headphone jack, but I haven't found anything so far. If anyone else has a suggestion I'd appreciate it.

If your warranty has expired you're probably just going to have to buy a new sound card. After some further reading, I don't believe there's an option to disable the headphones port. A PCMCIA sound card would be easy to install and probably not that expensive to buy. You could also take the computer to a repair shop and get an estimate on fixing the existing sound card. Hope that helps.

Ah I had the exact same problem, its a driver issue or at least for me it was. Make sure you have the latest sound driver.

Yeah, just installed the new driver, no new developments. Perhaps I will have to settle for buying a new sound card. Are they really easy to install on notebooks??

See above. You basically just slot it in the PC Card slot on the side of the laptop.
