This is the result of a simple bench using blackmagic.

I have 100gb available as per finder, trim is enabled and this is the average result that I got through several tests (after boot, after waiting disk activity to drop down, after cleaning cat poo and so forth)

pretty abysmal I would say DiskSpeedTest.jpg

I wonder if anyone can do a similar test on those 2nd gen SF controllers, or those 2010 controllers in general. BTW this is a Corsair F120

and here is the available space as per finder Screen Shot 2013-05-16 at 9.15.45 PM.png

Well, I have an Intel 330, which uses the SF-2281 controller, and here's my test results from CDM. I didn't prepare it for testing, just took it as it is, and it's usually between 70-90% full for the year or so I've owned it so far:

As for the advertized specs: 500MB/s seq read, 450MB/s seq write. ARK | Intel® SSD 330 Series (180GB, SATA 6Gb/s, 25nm, MLC)

well mine is not prepared in a sense, but I took it as an average given the susceptibility of those early SSD to have such an inconsistent performance

the space on it is due to most of the things that I use are in externals right now and that this pc is used solely for internet and Xcode

Karam yes that does not look good. Run Crystaldisk or other that gives us a breakdown.

Kuroi your test looks very good to me. Anything special you are doing? You beat my 830 in most. What is 4K QD? I know 4K is important because the top speed on the test is not what most use or make use of.

it doesnt look good at all I know. But its a hammered SSD that was never good to begin with. I have a high write count to the nands cant remember the number or the app that I used to see, but its in the area of 50TB

If you look carefully at the screenshot, you'll see that CDM is being run in 1-fill mode, which is essentially the best-case scenario for Sandforce. The scores would be very different in random mode.

I suppose that the marketing types will spin this and say that the drive is "working exactly as advertised" :p

Yeah but most PC usage is compressible data. You have to be storing a lot of photos or using your SSD as a video/photo production scratchdisk to notice the worst case scenario of Sandforce.

    @ASUS-UX32VD
4K random read/write at QD1 is essentially a measure of the latency of the SSD's Controller+NAND. This directly translates to how responsive your UI is. 4KQD is how well this drive performs when it is servicing multiple simultaneous jobs. I.e. its how well the drive handles multitasking, this is partly a function of the Controller but mostly determined by how many flash channels the SSD has.

On the contrary, typical PC usage involves partially compressible data, meaning that performance will constantly swing between the best and worst case scenarios on any workflow large enough for disk access to take more than a split second. Take a program install for instance - dll's, config files, and other program code will install very quickly whereas images, audio, and other program assets will take much longer.

Real world data filled with just 0's or just 1's wouldn't be meaningful at all - in fact, the only real world instances I can think of where this could even be possible are placeholder/test files and misguided attempts at running DBAN on an SSD.

Probably switch over to Crucial, Plextor, or Samsung? Personally, I haven't had any trouble with my 330 personally, though I don't know if the non-Intel SF-2281s are any good.

i purchased a m500 480gb, but since it hasnt arrived yet its a very untimely demise, nor that I would have appreciated the death. I will go and ask for them change the SSD from F120 to a neutron with a larger capacity and use it as storage for music, now I just need to get a thunderbolt case for it

So I tested the Intel 330 180GB with CDM's random data, and here's my results:

Funny thing I received yesterday my SSD back, basically no deal on changing that thing into something usable (really 6 months after the last time I RMAed the thing), and corsair actually paid R$ 571.55 aka U$285.78 because they actually declared the value as a "purchase" so they "payed" U$137.94 (product + shipping) + several taxes (U$144.84)

I like it, they are stupid enough to not make a deal on something that I not only payed 2x (shipping internationally is expensive, thus I was willing to drop some cash and get something more reliable), but they actually managed to get themselves to pay for the product 2x as well on this time.

This Vertex 2 will be 3 years old in about a week. It's one of the original V2s that have Intel 34nm NAND memory

It resides in a caddy in the optical bay of an MSI GT780DX with Windows 7 x64 installed.

The drive is 33% filled and benchmarked while being the C: primary boot drive in use.

The CrystalDiskInfo shows it's hours and starts. It doesn't get a lot of use any more since there's newer SATA III SSDs in the 2 internal SATA bays.
