When I'm on the right power profiles that allow for dynamic switching on the CPU, I have the following problem:
1) CPU-Z measures the speed of the processor at 997MHz (6x Multi)
2) NHC shows 2.16GHz (13x)
3) Windows (Start->Right Click My Computer->Properties) reads 2.16GHz
AND THIS IS WHEN I'M ON DYNAMIC SWITCHING AND/OR MAX BATTERY LIFE!
Is my speed step not working properly? I'm thinking about doing a fresh install (again).... Any help that would allow me to avoid that would be appreciated!

Don't trust the My Computer listing. It doesn't always handle variable clock speeds very well. CPU-Z is made to detect CPU info on the fly, so if it says speedstep is enabled, I see no reason to doubt it.
-
what really bothers me is that NHC reports the same thing...2.16GHz with no load and speedstep enabled.
-
do you have a Core 2 processor? I just bought a notebook with the T7200 cpu and neither Windows, NHC or ThrottleWatch can detect the throttling (which operates as normal, btw). CPU-Z detects this with no problems, but it seems as though the others aren't fully Core 2 optimised....
-
yea, I just got this T7400...and I just installed RMClock as well. RM and CPUZ say speedstep is fine. Windows and NHC are saying it is not.
Clearly, something is still strange but i'm guessing it might be okay. -

could you, please, tell me your idle CPU temperatures when:
- on battery
- on AC
- on AC + external CRT plugged?
- docked + external CRT (if you have a dock of course)
Thanks, Petr -
well, considering that NHC isn't working the way it should be...what is a good program to check that?
-
-
does that measure HDD & GPU temps as well?
-
- Motherboard
- CPU (=GPU)
- HDD -
GPU is the ATI X1600...would it do that?
...I'll download that today when I get off of work.
Almost finished with my review...stay tuned. -

oh...I didn't know that...
I knew they were using the same thermal exhast mechanism though....same heat sink too i think -
The exact opposite is happening to me right now. Even if I change the Power State to Always On, CPU-Z will show that my clock speed is still 1 Ghz. Mobimeter is apparently not working because it will stay at 1.83 Ghz on any power state if the clock speed is actually measured. My guess is that it's a BIOS problem and HP will come up with a solution soon.
-
Update the BIOS...they have F.0C now. Also, make sure you are plugged in. Always on might throttle the speed as well. Run SuperPI and see it reaches max speed.
-
Everest isn't recording the CPU speed right either...still says 2.16GHz. CPUZ disagrees.
However, everest did warn me that my chipset wasn't fully supported. -
My notebook is a dv2000t but I believe the chipsets should be the same for both of us.

I had the same **** problem. NHC said 1.73 GHz while My computer said 800 MHz, the only way of getting rid of it was formatting 3 times in a row. That fixed my problem.
Now My computer and NHC give the same speeds.

it isn't worth three reformats to me just to see the right number. as long as speedstep works (and it apparently does), I'm fine with it
-
I've reinstalled windows many times on this machine, but since last format I've been having the same problem. Even if I unplug the power cord and set the power scheme to Portable/Laptop or whatever else to get the processor down to the minimum. Windows shows the processor speed 2.0GHz and woun't go down no matter what I do. in I8kfanGUI it shows the current speed as 1.0GHz while max supported is 1.8GHz although I have a T2500!!!

I'm getting correct readings (at least they look right) from CPU-Z v1.36

my guess is it'll be up Monday or Tuesday.
