I messed up my PC completely and forced my HDD to reset itself by accident (all data was lost and all partitions made were re-merged)
Now I have approx. 160gb of space on C:\ (the Windows drive) and I want to leave the 60gb for the OS and any programs in the program files folder; the other 100gb I want to go to drive E:\ for my personal data, which I backed up recently due to believing my HDD was about to fail, but it never did.
The problem is, in XP I have no idea how to shrink and expand volumes. When I go to Disk Management, and right click on C:\ the "Expand" and "Shrink" options are gone.
How do I partition my HDD now? I am reluctant to use software like Partition Magic, because I don't want to waste my money for it and I don't trust them.
DISKPART in CMD also refuses to do this for reasons i don't understand, so I am out of ideas. Now I hate HDD even more, I am so getting an SSD laptop when I get my new one.

You can't expand and shrink in Windows XP, it belongs to Windows Vista. In Windows XP, you can only create/delete partition. These actions will erase your HDD completely. Just delete all the partitions then create 2 as you want, again.
PS: Try downloading Hiren Boot CD, it has all type of partition tools. Or you can also use Gparted from Linux Live CD. -
+1 for GParted....
