    Hello!!
Currently I have a Dell XPS M1530 which i adore, its a very good laptop and would definetly have another Dell XPS system... when I bought mine though, SSD's were only avalibe in 64Gb... now time has passed I was wondering if they are worth buying now and what sizes are avalible etc.
I was curious though... what will speed up?
iTunes seems to take forever (well about 5 seconds) to load and was thinking perhaps with a Solid State Drive, it would load faster.
Also sometimes when I open/close 'internet explorer' it can take a second or so to open/close. My desktop PC which runs XP, is pretty instant, and this seems to let my laptop and vista down a little.
Currently I have a 250Gb 5400rpm HDD and to be honest, I dont need that much space... i only have about 1,000 songs within itunes, and I have a lot of Pictures, which both keep increasing. I like to photo edit (which is about the more intensive thing I do on my laptop) and would really like to know whether having an SSD will be of any great benefit to me.
    Any recommendations are much appreciated!

You'll see faster everything, perhaps not instant like you'd wish, but definitely a speed increase, especially when reading a bunch of small files. SSD transfer speeds are pretty good, but they really outshine HDD's in seek times (tenths of a millisecond--if that--compared to about 12-18ms) and spin-up times (it's instantly ready to go when you power on--so sleep recovery is probably a bunch better).

Startup will be quicker, you'll generate less heat (which=more battery life), the only moving part in your laptop will be your fan, programs will probably load a bunch faster, and transfer rates never really degrade. It's just expensive for the price right now.

Honestly I wouldn't buy one yet because flash prices are dropping like a rock right now-- though no matter when you buy one you might kick yourself later because it will be slightly cheaper in a month. I say hold out till you find one on sale/just after a price drop/get a coupon or something so you have fewer regrets.
    Just my 2c :)

We have a whole thread about SSD here.

The new 128MB OCZ might be interesting for you. But noone has benchmarks on them yet.

No wonder your desktop responds faster, it's running XP. ;)
