This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    Well I encountered a "test" I really would have liked to pass on. Had my briefcase sitting on the chair - hit the chair and the briefcase tumbled. Hit the floor and rolled once. First thought was great, just tanked a computer...
    Netbook with SSD works fine - no issues, boots does everything as before. Not so for the portable hard drive. Appears that blow was enough to render is unreadable in Windows - rescued some files with Puppy Linux, but the drive is not usable anymore.
    So as the title reads - SSD -1, HDD - O. Was already sold on their speed (SSDs, now even more so on their ability to absorb shock etc).
