    Hi there :)

Okay, so here's my story: I have a VAIO (VPCSBS39E (edit: VPCSB 3S9E), which is kind of old - I know.

I bought and installed Windows 8 a month or two ago, and later I realized that my PC isn't actually compatible with Windows 8.

But, when I installed Windows, my Stamina/Speed switch stopped working, and I tried installing every single driver from Sony's webpage.

I gave up on Windows 8, and reinstalled Windows 7, which is working just fine, except.. The Stamina/Speed switch still doesn't work! And the FN key + F3/4/5/6 (which turns light and volume up and down) doesn't work either. I've tried all the Windows 7 drivers, and googled and googled and searched, but nobody else seems to have the same problem.

Sony's webpage's no good, Sony Live Help sucks and the Danish hotline hasn't responded in two weeks.

I really hope that someone out there has a solution (or at least a suggestion for a solution). That would be so fantastic! :)

    Thank you,

    Frederik

You need to install all the Sony root kits, er, I mean drivers... :^) in the proper order.

What made Win8 incompatible with your notebook? I'm sure that installing the same drivers properly/in order on Win7 or Win8 will be much more enjoyable with Win8 and give you a working system with either O/S.

    See:
Sony eSupport - Electronics - Support Information

btw; I can't seem to find your computer on any Sony website... is that the right part/model number?

    Good luck.

In the proper order.. How do I know which order is the right one? :(

Well, there's this page that lets you pick your model, and it will say whether or not Windows 8 will be compatible. This is the model: VPCSB3S9E | VAIO S Series Laptop | Technical Specifications | VPCSB3S9E/B.CEK | VPCSB3S9E | Sony

This page: windows8 | check in page

It's just.. I feel like I've tried everything - reinstalling Win8 and Win7, contacting Sony, the place that sold it, Microsoft, installing and reinstalling 100s of drivers, which Sony says are the right ones, but it doesn't help a thing. It's getting quite frustrating.

    Btw, I think i wrote it wrong: It's VPCSB 3S9E :)

The proper order is in the link I provided.

Thanks for the link to your specific model - I'd be surprised if this doesn't support Win8 'perfectly'.

You haven't tried everything yet: because it isn't working. ;)

"Make sure your VAIO PC is supported for Windows 8 and get drivers. If you have not already done so, go to our Upgrade Your PC page and enter your model number."

Is one of the points. When I click the link, I can't find my model in the list. I suppose it's the US one? I mean, I can't pick Europe :(

I would take this 'advice' from Sony with a grain of salt: they simply want you to buy another notebook (from them, of course).

Keep reading further... download all your Win7 drivers to a USB stick and install them in the order specified on a clean Win8 install.
