    Hey all,

I sent my notebook for repairs, and now when I check under the 'Display Adapters' of Device Manager, it is showing Standard VGA Graphic Adapter...

Pardon my limited knowledge, but shouldn't it be displaying the type of graphics card on the notebook?

If I am not wrong, my graphic card should Nvidia GeForce 8400 M GS.

Edit: Could the reason be that I am running on Vista Home Basic instead of Premium now? My Windows Experience Index is showing 1.0 on 'graphics' and 'gaming graphics'. Could Home Basic be the 'culprit'?

Right-click "Standard VGA Graphic Adapter" and click Properties> Details.

Click the drop down box and select "Hardware Ids" and tell me what the device is.

    e.g. PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A42&SUBSYS_059717FF

You need to download and install nVidia drivers. Sounds like they uninstalled the drivers while fixing the machine perhaps.

Drivers not being installed would not explain the O/S downgrade - I think they owe you a free upgrade to Premium.

    Good luck.

It is whatever the unit was shipped out with. Sometimes there will be a Vista Basic sticker on the palmrest but a Home Premium COA. Seems like they botched the OS install though, make sure your Windows is activated.
