Okay, so I posted the question about putting 4 gigs of RAM in an Acer Aspire the other day and I appreciate the clarifiaction, but here is what I am really confused on...This comes from Acer's specifiactions on the Aspire 5050:
"1 GB of DDR2 533/667 MHz memory
Ultra-efficient memory upgradeable to 4GB using two soDIMM modules (dual-channel support)"
Does this mean it's ready right out of the box to plug in 2 x 2 gig sticks? It seems only Acer advertises this fact. Other companies with notebooks in this price/spec range just say the max capacity is 2 gigs. What makes the Aspire line up so special that it can handle 4 gigs? Or is this an upgrade that can be done on all notebooks that say "max upgrade 2 gigs"?

The RAM limitation is something brought on by the notebook motherboard. It cannot be changed. If the Acer says it supports 4GB, then it probably does. Its not something that makes it really special, but it just happens to have a motherboard that can support 4 GB of RAM. Hope this helps.

Cool. Thanks for the clarification!

usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
32-Bit operating systems cant really use more than 3.5gb or so...
Unless you plan on running Vista or not even that maybe. It wouldn't be worth the hundreds of dollars to do the upgrade. Not on that laptop anyways.
Still confused on Acer Aspire RAM upgrade?!
