Hello
I am currently looking intop buying a laptop with a SSD drive (probably a Dell). However, I stumbled upon these two articles from 2008, which indicate that there have been problems with these drives:
http://perspectives.mvdirona.com/2008/04/25/LaptopSSDPerformanceDegradationProblems.aspx
http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/18/consumers-returning-ssd-laptops-in-droves/
Is this still the case? And should I just purhcase a laptop with a "normal" harddrive?
Thanks in advance!

not a problem anymore. and never was much of a problem at all. it is an overhyped problem, that got mainly much support from those that have no ssd, so they could feel good by not buying one as they're bad anyways.
yes, performance degrades a bit when thei're full. no, it's no issue. some drives cope better, some worse with it, highly firmware dependent. but you can get your ssd, and in most cases, will be save and happy with it. it may be faulty, as well as your ram may be, or your cpu, or your battery, or your display, etc.. but ssd aren't worse as anything else.
have fun with it, it's worth it -
I think Dell is the only company that gives decent prices for upgrading to SSDs on systems...
Still problems with SSD drives?
