Right now I have my notebook drive stored in a ziplock bag wrapped in bubble wrap (outside the bag) to protect from shock. I am a bit worried about static but I don't have an anti-static bag and cannot get one where I am right now nor have one shipped.

    Any recommendations? Thanks!

Honestly, I've got all my extra hard drives just sitting around on a wooden shelf. I don't think I've ever killed anything doing this, and I wouldn't think you would either. If you want to be absolutely safe, you should indeed use the anti-static stuff, but I think you'd be pretty safe if you just ground yourself before handling your drive(s).

Ask yourself where can static come from?

There is no movement - so that's one point less.
It its a non conductive surface its another proble less.

If you have an old antistatic bag (I did that with the old drive on the laptop my grandfather has - the new one came with a bag) you can dump it in there.

I suppose any box would really do the job - same as any palstic bag.

You could get a slight charge in the atmosphere - but I wouldn't worry about that as any HDD in operation is exposed to that too.

And if you think about it - external HDDs are siting just in aplastic or even metal box.

So you should be OK withou being paranoid.

Anti-static bag? Haven't thought of those for 25 years!

What I would recommend is some of those little packets of silica to remove any moisture from the ziplock bag and drive.
