I have an asus n80vm, the best buy special, bought it over christmas. About 2-3 months ago, about 2 minutes after resuming from hibernation, it would restart the DVD drive, like it does on boot consistantly. A month later, my laptop would temporarily hang while the DVD drive restarted. Now, the system hangs permenantly, though I can still move the mouse. Around the same time this started, a screetching sound would come from the speakers on occasion on boot, but quit when windows loaded the drivers.

I've reinstalled windows several times because the crash corrupted my windows install. I've even tried a clean vista install and downloaded all the newest drivers individually instead of using the driver disk, but still experienced the same problem. Even when it didn't corrupt windows, nothing unusual was reported in the error log.

I had replaced the hdd with a 7200rpm drive for better performance. Thinking that was the problem, I RMA'd it and recieved a new one. After installing the new one, the problem continues. I'm going to try running without the DVD drive entirely to see if that's the problem. Does anyone else have an idea as to what the problem could be.
