My notebook just came in a few days ago and I was able to tinker with it for one day to make sure that I got exactly what I ordered. Now it is tucked under the tree.
Overall the performance was great. I've got an MS-1719 with a T7700, 8600M GT, 7,200 RPM HD, and 4 GB RAM under Vista 64x. There was one strange thing: Despite the wonderful performance I noticed a very strange noise on the right side of the notebook. It sounded like a very faint grinding noise. The noise is somewhat similar to a crappy sounding HD, grinding of a cpu, or maybe a fan scraping something. But the weirdest thing of all was that it only made the noise when I was hardly doing anything at all. I only heard it when I was scrolling up and down an internet explorer or firefox window. For example, as I scroll up and down these forums I could hear the faint grinding noise. I'm familiar with the noises that computers can make, but this one just doesn't seem quite right.
I called tech support and they wrote everything down and said I could send it back no problem free of charge. They even extended my warranty further to compensate for any lost time. They couldn't help me much since I had already wrapped it back up and placed it under the tree. They told me to try a couple of things like disabling the sound to see if the speakers are doing it and they said I should try squeezing the notebook where it makes the sound to see if something is just gently touching something that it shouldn't be. I don't want to send it back mainly b/c I want to have fun with it. It runs great, but the small noise is making me worry.
Any suggestions?

If it is coming from the fan or harddrive you are going to want the problem fixed. If the problem is caused from a missing bearing in the cpu or gpu fan, the fan will not be functioning properly and may cause your system to overheat. If its the harddrive, then you run the risk of loosing all of your data. If its the speakers or line in from the microphone, then you can simply mute it and there would be no problems.

Anyone know why I would only hear the sound when I scroll the my internet explorer or firefox?

When you open it up, just mute the sound and try scrolling through web pages.
It may be the modem speaker acting up but you can silence that in the control panel.

I am starting to think that the sound I am getting is from the gpu. The sound only happens when I change my screen visually. I can hear it scrolling through windows and when i minimize and maximize things and change windows sizes. I can be installing a program and hear nothing.

I would send it back as that does not sound good to me. Just my opinion.
