I have a gateway 7510gx with 2X 512mb pc2700 ddr333 sodimm ram. Today i bought a 1gb module of the same exact specs, fits perfectly also. Only problem that i have is that whenever i turn my computer on, it starts for about a second then shuts down, then starts a 2nd time and shuts down. The whole time this happens, nothing appears on the screen, its just black. So i take the ram back, thinking its defective and get a new one. Well it turns out that the new stick does the same thing. Any ideas on what is wrong? My laptop is upgradeable to 1.5gigs of ram.
Just in case you guys need it, heres the specs of the current ram.

    Two 512MB Samsung modules,
    2.5-3-3-7 timings,
    Expandable to 1.5GB
Here are the specs of the ram i tried to upgrade to.
    PNY Optima Memory

Anyone have a 7510gx or a similar series laptop that has upgraded theirs to 1.5gigs? If so, can you tell me what brand you used

Make sure the RAM is seated properly in its bay. Remove it and reinstall it.

I did, 3 times with Both sticks, i even took it to staples because they do a free ram install, same thing happened their, they tried a new stick and still the same thing. When i put back in the original 512 stick, everything boots fine. The comp tech guy their was baffled and so am i, any ideas why its doing this?

It has one upgrade slot, and one inner slot. I know that the ram on the inside is removable though, just dont feel like tearing apart my laptop. Anyways, i installed it into the expansion port.

Anyone have any ideas, or know for a fact what brand RAM will work in a gateway?

Did you try the new stick in both slots? Put it in the slot under the keyboard. It's the only way to be sure that the RAM does not work.

Laptop RAM is generally the same all around, regardless of brand. There is no specific brand that will work 'best' with your laptop.

Yeah, that is what is confusing me, RAM is RAM, just as long as i have the right speed that my mobo can support. I talked to gateway and they told me some bull about how PNY isnt a tested brand of ram. Tested or not, it should work. Also, my laptop was a refurbished machine, think that has anything to do with it? Oh well, i took the ram back, anyone have any suggestions of ram that they got to work in their gateway 7000 series?
