I read an interesting article here http://blogs.zdnet.com/Ou/?p=322&tag=nl.e540#]
I am wondering if anyone knows about this. Is this just a performance term for partitioning a HDD in order to improve seek times?
Trying to figure out how to improve my active system disk, without the risks or raid 0, or speed boot devices. Was looking into getting a 10k rpm 2.5 HDD for my Sager 9262.
Edit: Nevermind on the 10k rpm drive. the 2.5 drive I found in the mobile HDD section of tigerdirect.com is SAS.

i think it is just a term for partitoning a larger hd >> I've noticed on alot of pc 3dmark06 test scores that the fastest often have very small hd's >> they probably partition them extremely small to improve perfomance/seek time >> but i'm no expert on this.....

Use LVM and put the main system directories near the start. Put the home directory and lesser used system directories near the middle and everything infrequently used (including an archive directory in home) near the end.
LVM allows you to resize just in case your estimates were off the first time around.
Stroking HDD's??
